Meet the Owner
My name is Xolani Blessed Buthelezi, the founder and owner of Scarlet Capital (PTY)LTD. I was born in Pietermaritzburg, but grew up in Hilltop farm, Dannhauser north of KwaZulu Natal.
I was introduced to the insurance industry through sales representatives and insurance brokers who used to make rounds at our high school, introducing insurance products to our teachers. Upon matriculating in the late 90’s, I was still fascinated and intrigued by the insurance world and how I saw it transform both the representative and client.
My life was profoundly changed after loss of my uncle in 2004, and being one of few employed people in the family I had to take a personal loan to cater for the funeral needs and expenses to ensure my uncle had a decent send off. I realised there the importance of a funeral policy, and I asked myself “how many families and individuals find themselves in my situation upon the sudden and unexpected loss of a family member”? My own harsh realities led me to want to know more about the insurance industry, for I never wanted to be in a similar situation anytime soon. Having to grieve the loss of a loved one while worrying about the interest on the loan I just took made it clear to me that this is where I can help others in similar situations.
I was blessed with the opportunity to be employed by Old Mutual in the capacity of a financial advisor in 2006. Since then, I have worked within the industry, learning and gaining invaluable experience along the way. I received numerous accolades and awards as a testament to my commitment, work ethic and desire. My life was changed in 2017, when I answered the calling to be an entrepreneur, with the establishment of Scarlet Capital. The mission was to become the preferred partner to provide peace of mind to individuals, families and groups in time of distress, loss and confusion.
I have learned, through more than 16 years in the industry, that trust is the currency that is most lacking for smooth and long-lasting relationships. There is a lack of trust between insurers and brokers and sales representatives, with fraud being at the centre of the lack of trust. Members of the public do not trust brokers and underwriters. However, without proper cover you will suffer a huge financial loss. The positive side of the story is that the industry is well regulated and that assists in protecting all the role players.
My goals is to see each and every South African afforded a decent and dignified funeral, without their loves ones having to worry about achieving that. I aim to achieve this through accessible, affordable and trusted insurance products, catering to the wide spectrum of the South African population.
As the leader of Scarlet Capital, my goals is to see the organization become an employer of choice when it comes to skills development, offering the best value proposition for our employees.
I conduct business with ethics and transparency, and have an insatiable desire to strive for excellence in all the Scarlet Capital undertakes.
